Celebrate Spring at Denton Community Market Opening Day

This morning, I googled the words "market" and "community" and one entry caught my eye "Farmers Markets as Community Centerpieces" (http://blogs.usda.gov/2013/08/05/farmers-markets-as-community-centerpieces/). This simple phrase underscores one of the reasons why farmers markets are expanding across the United States, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area. Markets are not just spaces where products are sold, they are places of interaction, gathering, and community.

This spring, just such a place, the Denton Community Market, will celebrate its 6th anniversary since opening in historic downtown Denton. The market's mission is to:

Strengthen the Denton community by providing economic opportunities for local artists, businesses, food vendors, and food producers, while contributing to the vitality and livability of Denton.

To date, the Market has met with plenty of success. The number of market vendors has grown exponentially from 15 vendors in 2010 to 150 vendors in 2014, and more are waiting in the wings. Attracted by the relaxed and welcoming environment, the Market's visitor base has also grown dramatically. Last year, the Market won 3rd place in the Best Community Event in the Best of Denton Contest.

Want to experience the Market for yourself? Join us on Market Opening Day, and every Saturday thereafter, at 317 W. Mulberry St., at the corner of Carroll Blvd. and Mulberry St. The market welcomes you to enjoy locally-produced items and food, live music, and free activities from 9 AM to 1 PM. Hope to see you there!
